Rob Powell received his secondary education in the public schools in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He graduated from Davidson College earning a B.A. degree with a Major in Economics. He went on to the University of North Carolina where he received the Masters of Business Administration degree with a Concentration in Finance. Rob earned the Chartered Life Underwriter degree from The American College in 1980 and earned the designation of Chartered Financial Consultant from The American College in 1984.

He was an instructor in Finance at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1970 and 1971 Rob was the author of a weekly column in The Carolina Financial Times, a weekly newspaper published in Chapel Hill. Following military service as a lieutenant in the field artillery, he became a research analyst for a regional brokerage firm. In 1974, with three partners, Rob founded the Powell Group, a regional brokerage firm where he served as Director of Research. In 1976, he moved to Greenville, North Carolina and joined the Equitable Financial Companies. From 1978 until 1982, he served as that company's district manager for the northeastern part of North Carolina.

Rob has been a featured speaker at seminars in more than 15 states and Canada and his presentations have been broadcast throughout the United States on private satellite networks. He is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the Association of Advanced Life Underwriters, a board member and past president of the East Carolina Estate Planning Council, a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, and is a Life and Qualifying Member of the Million Dollar Round Table and a member of the Table's Honor Roll. His articles about financial planning and insurance have been published in the Life Association News, Life Insurance Selling, California Brokerage, and the Florida Life Underwriters magazine. He has been recognized by various companies for high production levels as well as being honored for consistent, long-term service to his community and to the industry. Rob serves on two corporate boards as well as serving as a trustee of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina.

His past services includes President, Greenville Noon Rotary Club; Chairman, St. Peter's School Advisory Board; President, Greenville Swim Club; President, Pitt-Greenville Soccer Association; President of New Directions (Pitt County Family Violence Center), a member of the Advisory Board of St. Catherine's School in Richmond, Virginia and his is currently a United Way volunteer. Rob has been married to his wife, Clarine, for more than thirty years. They are the parents of four young adults, one of whom is Rob's business associate.
